Precision Neuromuscular Therapy in Lake Forest
Pain that refers, wanders or hides is usually a conversation between muscle and nerve gone wrong. We test until we find the spot that is actually driving it, then treat that.

What is precision neuromuscular therapy?
You can point to where it hurts. What nobody has been able to tell you is why it hurts there. Precision neuromuscular therapy is built to close exactly that gap. It is hands-on soft tissue work that begins with assessment rather than with pressure. Your therapist tests muscle strength, palpates the tissue layer by layer, and watches how you stand, walk and reach, because the muscle that is complaining loudest is very often not the one causing the trouble. Muscles and nerves work as one system. When a nerve is irritated along its path, or a muscle has been quietly covering for a weak neighbour for months, the tissue develops tender, taut bands that refer pain somewhere else entirely: a point deep in the hip that lights up the outside of the knee, a band at the base of the skull that sends an ache behind one eye. Precision neuromuscular therapy maps that referral pattern back to its source, then treats the source with graded, specific pressure and positional release instead of broad, general kneading.
Active Release Technique, also on this site, overlaps with this work honestly, and it is worth saying so plainly. Both are hands-on, both address soft tissue, and both treat tender bands. The difference is who moves and what the strength of the method is. Here you are largely still while your therapist tests, isolates and treats one structure at a time, and the power of the approach is in the assessment. In Active Release Technique your own movement is the mechanism, and the power is in restoring glide between tissues. If you can reproduce your pain on demand with one specific motion, that is usually the first choice. If you cannot point to it, or the pain shows up in a place the scans keep clearing, testing comes first, and that is this. Both often appear in the same plan of care.
Who it's for.
If your pain has an address but no explanation, or the explanation you were given never quite fit what you feel, this is the work that goes looking for the cause. These are the patterns it suits best.
Pain that shows up somewhere else
Your shoulder blade aches but the shoulder itself looks fine. Your calf keeps tightening but the real problem sits at the hip. We follow the referral pattern back to the tissue generating it, so treatment lands where the trouble starts rather than where you happen to feel it.
Tingling, numbness and nerve-type symptoms
Pins and needles down an arm, or a hot line down the back of the leg, often trace to soft tissue crowding a nerve somewhere along its route. Careful assessment finds that point, and specific release gives the nerve room, so the symptom fades instead of migrating.
Old pain that keeps circling back
You have had it looked at. You stretched it, rested it, and it came back anyway. When nothing has stuck, the missing piece is usually a driver nobody tested for. We test broadly, treat narrowly, then re-check the same thing so you can see whether it actually held.
What to expect at our Lake Forest studio.
Every visit follows the same logic: test, treat, re-test. You should never leave wondering what was done to you or whether it did anything.
Testing before touching
Your therapist takes the history, then works through muscle testing, palpation, posture and gait. You will be asked to move, to resist, and to report what you feel and exactly where. This is how one specific tissue gets chosen instead of a general region, and it is why a first visit here involves more questions than most people expect.
Specific, graded release
Once the driver is identified, treatment goes to that structure and stays there: sustained, measured pressure into the taut band, positional release to take tension off an irritated point, and slow, deliberate work along a nerve's path where tissue is crowding it. Pressure is set by what your tissue accepts that day, and you are asked as we go, not afterwards.
Re-test, then reinforce
The same test that failed at the start gets repeated at the end, in front of you. If it moved, we lock the gain in with the movement and strength work that holds it, which is where the Pilates and rehab side of this studio earns its keep. If it did not move, that tells us just as much, and the plan changes at your next visit instead of a month from now.
Bring or wear something you can move in that also lets your therapist reach the area being treated. Bring the history too: when it started, what makes it worse, what you have already tried and what that did. That detail shortens the search considerably. The person who evaluates you is the person who treats you, so nothing has to be explained twice. Illinois is a direct access state, so most people can start without a physician referral, and because some plans still ask for one, we verify your specific benefits before your first visit and tell you where you stand.
I have loved every experience I have had at Wellness Solutions!!! I schedule appointments as soon as I know I am coming to town!! You are ALL welcoming, supportive and encouraging!!
Where to go next.

Manual Therapy
The wider hands-on toolkit: joint mobilization, soft tissue work and guided movement, chosen by what your evaluation actually finds.

Sports Rehab
The loading side of the plan. Once the tissue is calm, this is the work that rebuilds it to the demands of your sport.

Back Pain & Sciatica
The most common reason people find us, and a frequent home for referred pain that started somewhere else entirely.
