Infrared Sauna Therapy in Lake Forest

Heat that goes into you, not just around you. Our Sunlighten infrared sauna warms muscle and joint directly, a quiet reset built into the same Lake Forest studio where your therapy happens.

01What It Is

What is infrared sauna therapy?

A traditional sauna heats the air, and the air then heats you. An infrared sauna skips that step. It uses light to create heat that your body absorbs directly, so the warmth is felt in the muscle and around the joint rather than mostly on your skin and in your lungs. The practical result is that the room stays far more breathable while the warmth still reaches deep. If you have ever walked out of a conventional sauna because the air itself was too much to sit in, this is a different experience entirely. We use a Sunlighten cabin, and it sits in the same building as the therapy rooms, which means the sauna is not a separate errand on a separate day. It is something you can fold into a visit you were already making.

What the heat does is straightforward. Warm tissue is more pliable than cold tissue, so stiff muscles let go more easily and a joint that resists in the morning tends to move better once it is warmed through. Blood flow increases, and your heart rate rises mildly, in the way it does during light activity. You sweat, properly, and most people find the whole thing has a settling effect on a wound up nervous system. That is the honest description of what a sauna session is: a recovery and wellness modality, not treatment for a diagnosis. It goes alongside a physical therapy plan of care written by a licensed physical therapist, never instead of one, and your therapist is the right person to tell you where it fits in your week.

02Who It's For

Who it's for.

Nobody needs a sauna. Plenty of people benefit from one. These are the three reasons it comes up most often in conversation here.

01

Stiffness that takes half the morning to shake

You wake up feeling set in concrete and it takes a shower and a coffee before your body agrees to move properly. Warming tissue through makes it more pliable, which is why some people book the sauna right before their mobility work.

02

Sore muscles after hard training

A heavy lifting week, a long run, a weekend of yard work you will pay for. Deep warmth and increased circulation are a comfortable way to take the edge off between sessions without adding more strain to already tired legs.

03

People who never actually stop

You are wound tight, your shoulders live near your ears, and the last unbroken quiet you had was a while ago. Sitting in the heat with no phone and nothing to do turns out to be a legitimate way to let a nervous system come down.

03What To Expect

What to expect in the sauna.

You are in control of the whole thing, from how warm it gets to when you are done. Here is how it goes.

01

We set it to suit you

Sessions are adjustable, so before you get in we talk about what you are after and how much heat you actually want. Someone using the sauna to loosen a stiff back and someone using it to decompress after work do not need the same setting.

02

You sit in the warmth

The cabin is wood lined and lit, the air stays breathable, and the heat builds gradually rather than hitting you at the door. You will start to sweat. Bring a towel to sit on, put the phone down, and let it be uneventful.

03

You step out when you are ready

There is no minimum you have to endure. You can open the door and step out at any point, cool off, drink water, and go back in if you want to. Most people finish feeling loose and pleasantly tired rather than drained.

Good to know

Drink water before you get in and keep drinking after you get out, because you will sweat more than you expect. Bring a towel and something dry to change into, skip the sauna if you have just eaten a large meal, and if you feel lightheaded at any point, step out. Nobody here is keeping score.
