Learning to detox our bodies in a safe and effective manner is very important to our overall well being. One of the key reasons I started my health journey with Young Living is because I have found essential oils are an amazing way to take care of our bodies and homes. Essential oils are harvested from farm-grown and wildcrafted plants, herbs, and trees. 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils are obtained by careful steam distillation, cold pressing, or resin tapping. With this in mind, I turn to essential oils to support my overall health and detoxify my body.

Toxins are everywhere in our environment. We are bombarded by them through​ air pollution, cleaners, cookware, computers, electronics, cosmetic additives, dental amalgams, electromagnetic fields, farm-raised fish, food additives, genetically modified food, light bulbs, medicine/medical procedures, “off-gassing” from carpets, fabrics and furniture, older homes, non-organic food, paint (old lead paint), pesticide and herbicide residue, plastics, smog, water (city and well), water piping and vaccines. Thinking of this list may seem overwhelming at first, but if you are already eating clean and surrounding yourself with healthy choices, using essential oils for detox purposes will be an easy way to help support your body health.

So, how do you determine if your body is toxic? There are some signs to watch for including, but not limited to the following: constipation and digestive issues, erratic mood issues, headaches, fatigue and unexplained pain or soreness. Some commonly known issues from toxins include allergies, cancer, immune disorders, mental health issues and hormone imbalance. If you are interested in supporting your health and detoxifying your body using essential oils, the top oils to consider are lemon, lemongrass, rosemary, clove, mint, myrrh and valerian root. Young Living’s Thieves Blend consists of clove, cinnamon, rosemary, lemon and eucalyptus.

Detox Suggestions

  • Detox Baths 2 – 3x per week. Use this link to see my recipe for a great bath.
  • Oil Pulling 3 – 4x per week.
    To oil pull, start with a tablespoon of Coconut Oil mixed with either Thieves Blend or a mint essential oil of your preference, adding 2-3 drops. Place in mouth and swish for 15-20 minutes. Do not swallow and do not spit out in your sink as the coconut oil with clog your pipes.
  • Daily Diffusion for stress reduction. My favorites for detox include Young Living Thieves Blend or Purification (a wonderful blend of lemongrass, rosemary, tea tree, myrtle, citronella, lavandin)
  • Lemon + Water Detox. Add 1 drop of Young Living Lemon essential oil to 8 ounces of filtered water. Drink this in the morning 2-4x per week.
