As I continue my journey of toxin-free and healthy living, I think it is a good idea to recognize that moving towards becoming clean and green does take time and effort in the beginning. To those of you just starting this journey, it may seem overwhelming as there are so many different ways to be clean and toxin-free in our everyday lives. So, my advice for the day is to take it slowly. In fact, don’t stress out about it at all. This is supposed to be a positive and thoughtful process to become healthier, cleaner and more green.

Moving forward towards change or becoming greener and cleaner is different for everyone. All of us have our own definition of what is clean and green means for ourselves, our homes and our families.

Here are my recommended four steps to change:

1st Step:
There is no room for judgement or feeling judged by others. This is a personal journey and choice.

2nd Step:
Do this one tiny step at a time! If you decide to change absolutely everything at once it will be way too overwhelming. And realistically, if you live with other family members, they may become freaked out by the dramatic change.

3rd Step:
I recommend selecting food or cleaning to start your clean & green journey. My personal preference would be to start with cleaning first! What do you need for cleaning? You probably have some in your home right now.  White Vinegar or Apple Cider Vinegar.

All you need to do is buy a BPA-free spray bottle and fill it half with water and half with the vinegar of your choice. *BOOM* — You have an all-around cleaner for your home. This will clean stove tops, counters, sinks walls, doorknobs, toilets and much more.

To clean the inside of your toilet, I recommend a different mixture.  1/2 cup baking soda with 10-15 drops of either Young Living Lemon, Tea Tree or Thieves essential oil, plus a 1/2 cup of vinegar. Simply sprinkle the baking soda into the toilet, add the essential oil of your liking and then add the vinegar. Just wait 10 minutes and scrub with a toilet brush.

What you will find if you start your journey with cleaning first, is that you may prefer the strong smell of chemical cleaners — but, what you need to remember is a good percentage of that smell comes from unwanted toxic chemicals added to conventional cleaners. By adding an essential oil, you will add natural scent and powerful cleaners too.

4th Step:
For your hands, body and more on the clean journey, try using Castille soap. Castille soap is a highly concentrated soap made from 100% olive oil. There is nothing artificial in it and it is easy to use.  Remember, a little goes a long way. You can make foaming hand soap with a small amount and simply mix with water in a foaming hand soap container. For an added bonus, try adding your favorite Young Living Essential Oil.

After you have started small on your cleaning journey, try removing your conventional cleaners one at a time. You will begin to notice you won’t even miss them in your life. Knowing you are using all natural products will give you peace of mind that your home environment is safe for you, your family and your friends.
